Resumo: | It is known that the current society has developed with the use of electric energy, and to this day it is the basis of humanity. Althought Brazil has a favorable condition in water resources for the production of hydropower, these still have some counterpoints as expropriation and management of affected communities in the deviations of water courses. It is extremely necessary then capable devices of generating electrical energy in a condition appropriate to the concept of sustainability. In this case the fuel cells (FCs) fit properly by generating energy through renewable fuels and with very low pollution capacity. For FCs, the intermetallic class presents itself as a good candidate for electrode materials, including metallic alloy, core-shell and ordered intermetallic, being that the later has a great physical-chemical stability as the homogeneous structure, superior to similar alloys, thus allowing more detailed and precise theoretical studies. The synthesis of intermetallic nanoparticles, which functions of electrode materials, were made from the method of reducing the corresponding metal ions tetraethyleneglycol (for the ordered intermetallic phase), by the microemulsion method (for metal alloys) and modified polyol method (for core-shell). The obtained materials were characterized by techniques such as x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, transmission electronic microscopy and x-ray absorption spectroscopy. Having the same chemical identity and stoichiometric ratios, the intermetallics presented different characteristics in relation to the electron density donation for the Platinum band d |
