The connection of individuals in virtual and online space is a relatively recent reality in history and therefore still lacks many studies to understand its impact on the various dimensions of human life. This research wants to contribute by bringing to light the discussion about the impacts and possibilities that virtual communication present for public debate and politics. To this end, a bibliographic review was conducted, which includes authors who contributed in various ways to the understanding of the object studied. At the end of the research it was concluded that the development of cyberspace can mean advances and setbacks in relation to public debate, which generates dissent among authors that vary between optimists, pessimists and skeptics in relation to the possible environment of public debate.
