The present situation of the civil construction sector is marked by a huge competitiveness and, as a consequence, from day to day a new material or a new construction method is launched, what increases even more their diversity. For this reason is essential having the knowledge of each one's properties and characteristics before make the choice of which one will be chosen and used for the implementation of a project. Through researches in books, articles and specialized publications, this work has the purpose of showing a comparison between the two most employed kind of structures in the world, the reinforced concrete structure and the metallic structure, through an analyses of the structural and economic viability between them, noting the most remarkable characteristics of each one, just like their advantages and disadvantages, their impact on the environment e their sustainability. As an outcome of this comparative analysis it was possible to establish if some structure is better than the other one, or if the choice between them depends on the type of the project, on its necessities and also on the client's needs
