The suppression of vegetation cover, as a result of fast and disorderly urbanization process, results in severe consequences for the environment and for society. Due to the interference of vegetal cover in the quality of life of the population and the environmental implications associated with the reduction of vegetation, it is undeniable the importance of studies that lead to a better understanding of the distribution and density in the urban space. Considering that the degradation of vegetation cover should be avoid with the application of technical knowledge, the present research had the objective of analyzing the distribution and concentration of the arboreal and shrub vegetation cover in the urban perimeter of Santa Gertrudes - SP, through the interpretation of images of remote sensing, covering two scenarios: 1995 and 2010. For this, a mapping of the vegetation cover of the two years was carried out, through the segmentation images by region, which allowed to add homogeneous pixels for later photointerpretation of the vegetation features and to classify them according with your location (APP, Road Monitoring, Public Spaces, Sparse, Forest Fragments, Private and Institutional Property). The vegetation map integrated with the land use maps of 1995 and 2010 made it possible to carry out a qualitative and quantitative analysis of both the distribution of the vegetation cover and its location in the different land uses. In this way, it was observed the increase of 103% of the vegetal cover and bush in the course of fifteen years, being that, in 1995, it occupied 4,8% of the urban perimeter of Santa Gertrudes, taking to occupy in 2010, 9,77 %. However, more than 93% of this vegetation, in both scenarios, occurred outside the more densely urbanized areas, concentrating mainly along the waterways and in particular areas, such as sites and farms, the latter without access to the public.
