Resumo: This undergraduate thesis is contextualized by the recent expansion of mobile communication systems towards operation at millimetre wave frequencies. This expansion, proposed as a means to provide greater spectrum availability and support multiple current and emerging use cases, has encouraged research into the development of antennas and devices capable of overcoming the challenges of operating at extremely high frequencies. One of the proposed antennas capable of providing the sought-after wideband behaviour and omnidirectional high-gain characteristic is the dual-reflector antenna fed by a coaxial horn. This work aims to conduct electromagnetic analyses and optimizations of a coaxial horn operating in the Ka band (26 GHz to 40 GHz), a portion of the spectrum being allocated worldwide for future international mobile telecommunications. Ultimately, this work will evaluate the design of two coaxial horn models: the standard coaxial horn, serving as a practical prototype of the device previously presented in the literature, utilizing the same dimensions but incorporating essential elements to enable its fabrication without compromising performance; and the shaped coaxial horn, an optimized version aiming for a broader bandwidth and a more uniform radiation pattern. This work will also report the fabrication of the standard coaxial horn through additive manufacturing, and its characterization, from which measurements revealed a relative impedance bandwidth of 79% and a peak realizable gain of 11.53 dBi.
