Resumo: With the arrival of 5G, opportunities for the electricity sector will open up, such as faster connections and greater data traffic, thus enabling the emergence of services that require real-time applications and an almost immediate response time. 5G technology will inevitably be part of the daily lives of companies in the electricity sector. One of the trends in the energy sector with the arrival of 5G is the biggest stimulus to the adoption of smart grids. The smart grid is a concept that combines intelligent detection, measurement, control and supervision techniques and methods. Its characteristics and advantages are pointed out as solutions in several segments of the electricity sector, since they promise high speed, greater reliability and the possibility of massive connections for the use of IoT. The present work aims to analyze the performance of 5G in the advancement of smart grids. As these are recent topics, the work was developed in the context of bibliographic and documentary research, applying the descriptive method and qualitative approach, extracting the results of articles and documents available by companies. For the advancement of smart grids using 5G, there are applications linked to energy generation, transmission and distribution, such as remote inspection with drones, distributed automation of smart feeders, the acquisition of low voltage system information and the distributed generation sources. In conclusion, the work was able to relate these applications to 5G use cases, such as mMTC, eMBB and URLLC.
