Resumo: The flocculation, rupture and re-growth of flocs of drinking water were studied. The tests were conducted on bench for two study waters at different flocculation rates and time. The strength and re-growth were evaluated by macroscopic techniques, using the Strength Factor and Recovery Factor. Aluminum sulphate were used as coagulant. It were studied different speed rates, from 20 to 80 s-1, and the monitoring of aggregates was continuous during the flocculation time. The breakage of flocs previously formed was performed under controlled conditions and re-growth occurred without additional coagulant. It has been observed that at lower flocculation rates larger flocs are formed, both before and after the break. The Strength Factor was lower in lower flocculation rates

Os ensaios foram conduzidos em bancada, para duas águas de estudo, em condições variadas de mistura e de tempo de residência. A força e o recrescimento foram avaliados por técnicas macroscópicas, usando os parâmetros denominados por Fator de Força (FF) e Fator de Recrescimento (FR). O Sulfato de Alumínio foi usado como coagulante. Foram estudados gradientes de velocidade médios (Gf) de 20 a 80 s-1 e o monitoramento dos agregados foi contínuo durante o tempo de floculação. A ruptura dos agregados previamente formados foi realizada em condições controladas e o recrescimento ocorreu sem coagulante adicional. Observou-se que em menores gradientes de floculação formam-se flocos maiores, tanto antes quanto depois da quebra.
