In this present work the behavior of pile raft foundation was analyzed. Initially it is pre-sented the definitions of shallow foundation (raft), deep foundation (pile and pile group) and mixed foundation (pile raft). In the revision are described the pioneering work and the perfor-mance of some previous works that have used pile raft which used the piles as settlement lim-iter. In this work some simplified methods for pile raft sizing and a short introduction to ad-vanced methods are shown. Utilizing the simplified methods an Excel spreadsheets was devel-oped for prediction of the curve load x settlement and having its results compared with other published studies in the literature. The case study of pile raft presented in Sales' (2000) PhD thesis, carried out in the Experimental Field of the University of Brasilia UnB, was used for calibration and comparison of the obtained results
