Resumo: | Twelve equines, of both sexes and undefined races, aged between 24 and 60 months were divided in two experimental groups (GI and GII) which were submitted to a laparotomy at the left para-lumbar fossa and enterotomy of the small colon respectively. The GI group received chloramphenicol (50mg/kg, IV), one hour before surgery and every six hours for seven days, with intention to evaluate drug effects over intestinal healing. GII group was taken as control. Biopsies were made from the intestinal wounds at 24, 48 and 168 hours after surgery. Histopathological findings in the GI group revealed an exacerbation in the inflammatory process on both acute and chronic phases, driving to a delayed arise of the granulation tissue. The GII showed normal healing process. |

The GII showed normal healing process.Foram utilizados 12 eqüinos, machos e fêmeas, sem raça definida, com idades variando entre 24 e 60 meses, divididos em dois grupos experimentais (GI e GII). Com o objetivo de avaliar-se os efeitos do succinato de cloranfenicol sobre a cicatrização intestinal, os animais do grupo GI receberam o medicamento na dose terapêutica de 50mg/kg, IV; uma hora antes da cirurgia e a cada 06 horas, por até sete dias consecutivos. O grupo GII foi utilizado como controle. Todos os animais, de ambos os grupos, foram submetidos a laparotomia na fossa paralombar esquerda e enterotomia longitudinal no cólon menor em sua face antimesentérica. A análise da evolução do processo cicatricial foi realizada mediante colheita de amostra das feridas cirúrgicas intestinais às 24, 48 e 168 horas após a intervenção cirúrgica. O exame histopatológico das amostras colhidas revelou uma exacerbação do processo inflamatório, tanto em seu componente agudo, quanto em seu componente crônico, a qual conduziu a um retardo no estabelecimento do tecido de granulação.
