Temperatura superficial dos músculos masseter e temporal em portadores de hábitos parafuncionais: estudo em universitários brasileiros

Resumo: The temperature of the skin or mucosa depends on both flow of body fluids as well as production and heat loss by the body. The temperature of muscle tissue in dependent on energy production and blood flow, directly related to the concentration of oxygen in tissue. The deleterious habits, defined as all non-functional neuromuscular activity of the stomatognathic system, generally pleasant for the individual, can lead to hyperactivity of craniomandibular muscle groups, and increasing the internal pressure of the temporomandibular joint. Responding to emotional needs, when it exceeds the tolerance level can bring individual physiological occlusal compromises, muscle and/or joint pain, culminating in the development of temporomandibular disorders. It has been suggested that patients with TMD have an increased temperature of the masseter. This seems to have important diagnostic value since it allows the differentiation between inflammatory and ischemic. The purpose of this study is to analyze the surface temperature of the masseter and temporal muscles in patients with parafunctions. The voluntary recruitment was done among undergraduates of the Faculty of Dentistry of Araçatuba, UNESP. We selected 62 individuals: 42 females and 20 males, aged between 19 and 27 years. These were measured skin temperature over the masseter and temporal muscles after 30 minutes of rest an ambient temperature of 22ºC, using digital thermometer reading system with infrared radiation. The results showed that the deleterious habits increase the skin temperature over the masseter and temporal muscles

A temperatura do tecido muscular está na dependência da produção de energia e do fluxo sangüíneo, diretamente relacionado com a concentração de oxigênio no tecido. Os hábitos parafuncionais, definidos como toda atividade neuromuscular não funcional do sistema estomatognático, geralmente agradável para o indivíduo, podem gerar hiperatividade de grupos musculares craniomandibulares, além do aumento da pressão interna da articulação temporomandibular. Resposta a necessidades emocionais, quando excede o nível de tolerância fisiológica individual podem trazer comprometimentos oclusais, musculares e/ ou articulares, culminado no desenvolvimento de desordens temporomandibulares. Tem sido sugerido que pacientes portadores de DTMs apresentam aumento da temperatura do músculo masseter. Isto parece ter grande valor no diagnóstico já que permite a diferenciação entre os quadros inflamatório e isquêmico. O propósito deste trabalho é analisar a temperatura da superfície dos músculos masseter e temporal em portadores de hábitos parafuncionais. O recrutamento voluntário foi feito entre os graduandos da Faculdade de Odontologia de Araçatuba, Unesp. Questionário sobre desenvolvimento de atividade parafuncional foi apresentado a todos os participantes a fim de detectar sua presença como primeiro critério de exclusão. Foram selecionados 62 indivíduos : 42 do gênero feminino e 20 do masculino, com idades entre 19 e 27 anos. Nestes foi medida a temperatura da pele sobre o músculo masseter e temporal, após 30 minutos de repouso a uma temperatura ambiente de 22ºC, utilizando termômetro digital com sistema de leitura por irradiação infravermelha.
