Resumo: This research proposes to reflect on how wood has been used in recent years by artisans, with a focus on sustainability and the importance of the reuse of this raw material in a way close to its natural condition, for the creation of utilitarian objects, Functional and / or ornamental. We will address these issues, taking as reference the production of João Gomes and the creative process of this artist / artisan. We will focus on the work done in wood, investigating the present relations between the visual arts and the main characteristics of the work of Gomes, highlighting contemporary approaches generated in reflections generated in the environment where we live, where the concept of sustainability meets the visual arts
