The manufacturing industries have the need to maintain its competitiveness always in check with the market and their competitors, and one way to do it, is through the continuous improvement, cost reductions and increase of productivity that can be achieved through the TPM methodology created in Japan in the 70s. This graduation work has as it main objective the realization of an Action Research in a local metallurgy industry, applying the TPM concepts and mainly the use of the productivity indicator OEE, Overall Equipment Effectiveness, chosen as the best method to evaluate the correct utilization of an equipment, to facilitate the installation of a new equipment, and evaluate the first months of production. The present research included the creation of autonomous maintenance plans, creation of metrics on how to define the OEE and a system to collect the needed data and finally the calculation of the actual OEE value. The Results of the research was the controlled begin of production in the chosen machine, intensive actuation on the identified losses, reducing the work stoppage and helping to focus efforts in the direction of an increased competitiveness
