Resumo: Wood has awakened every day more interest for its renewable character and application versatility. Several methods have been developed in order to change some of the existing properties of wood and adapt it for their use and application, especially in reforested wood that often do not have these features. The heat treatment is the process by which the timber is subjected to temperatures between 140 ° C and 220 ° C in order to change the properties of wood due to degradation of some of its constituents by the pyrolysis process. The heat wood treatment appears as an alternative to changing the properties, colorimetric, hygroscopic and density. There are countless studies on the subject, but few address the machining of this type of material. This paper did a heat treatment on the wood Pinus elliottii and Corymbia citriodora at temperatures of 100°C, 140°C, 160°C, 180°C and 200°C and evaluated the performance of machining in three different material cutting tools, carbide, polished carbide and carbide with TiB2 coating. The parameters analyzed were effective power, vibration, tool temperature during machining, roughness and the formation of chips. The heat-treated timber showed a good machining performance and the quality of their surface, showing a decrease of roughness with increasing heat treatment temperature. The heat-treated timber showed a decrease of roughness with increasing heat treatment temperature, with the use of carbide tool with TiB2 coating and kind of Corymbia citriodora. Lower power machining for Pinus elliottii. Higher machining temperature with increasing heat treatment temperature. In the surface analysis by scanning microscopy there was the defect of fiber pullout and a more uniform surface when thermally treated at 160 ° C

O tratamento térmico da madeira aparece como alternativa na alteração das propriedades, colorimétricas, higroscópicas e da densidade. Inúmeros são os trabalhos encontrados na literatura sobre o tema, porém poucos tratam da usinagem deste tipo de material. Este trabalho tratou termicamente as madeiras de Pinus elliottii e Corymbia citriodora nas temperaturas de 100°C, 140°C, 160°C, 180°C e 200°C e avaliou o desempenho da usinagem deste material em torneamento com as ferramentas de corte de metal duro, metal duro polido e metal duro com revestimento de TiB2. Foram analisados os parâmetros da potência de corte efetiva, vibração, temperatura da ferramenta durante a usinagem, rugosidade, superfície por MEV e formação dos cavacos. A madeira termicamente tratada demonstrou diminuição de sua rugosidade com o aumento da temperatura de tratamento térmico, com o uso da ferramenta de metal duro com recobrimento de TiB2 e espécie de Corymbia citriodora. Menor potência de usinagem para Pinus elliotti. Maior temperatura de usinagem com o aumento da temperatura do tratamento térmico. Com o aumento da temperatura do tratamento térmico o material se tornou mais friável produzindo cavacos menores.
