The literary works with vampiric themes have attracted a lot of readers over the years, this fact is confirmed by the great demand and increase of new publications of literary works that present this theme. However, the journey in the fantastic literature of the vampire character is not something new and its presence can be observed in several artistic creations over the centuries. Thus, the present dissertation aims to analyze the transformations that the literary vampire character has undergone over time and how these changes are related to the socio-cultural context in which the character is inserted in contemporary literature. Therefore, a descriptive, bibliographic and qualitative research was carried out, in which some relevant vampire characters were analyzed and compared from predefined thematic categories, created by different writers in different countries and at a different period of time, such as Drácula, by Bram Stoker as a model of aristocratic vampire, Lestat de Lioncourt, Entrevista com o Vampiro, by Anne Rice, Inverno, the antagonist of the literary work Os Sete, by Brazilian writer André Vianco and Edward Cullen, Crepúsculo, by Stephenie Meyer. As a theoretical basis to anchor ourselves during the research, we return to literary works that deal with fantastic narratives in literature (FURTADO, 2017) and the construction of the fictional character (CANDIDO, 2018), in addition to historical and anthropological studies on vampires and their legends (LECOUTEX, 2005). The result obtained in this research confirms that the vampire character is in constant transformation, molding itself according to the period of time and the society in which it is inserted, acquiring more and more modernity traces in its constitution, and becoming humanized throughout this process.
