Resumo: This research proposes a study on writing. Specifically, it seeks to respond, as a matter of thesis, what is the differential in Émile Benveniste thinking about writing. The proposal starts from the theoretical foundations of Émile Benveniste, present in his Last Lectures: Collège de France, 1968 and 1969 and in his two tomes of Problems in General Linguistics. The research establishes as general objective to verify how the linguist elaborates the writing problem on the linguistic dimension in its theoretical frame. To guide the research process, the following specific objectives were drawn: (re) constitute the scientific scenery about writing at the time that precedes Émile Benveniste Last Lectures; comprehend the motivations of Benveniste related to the writing, from the Course in General Linguistics reading; and, with this, situate the Saussurian discussion itself about writing; discuss the lessons about semiology and the relationship on language and writing; finally, to inscribe the significance of writing from the Benvenistian frame. Regarding the research objectives, they are determined as exploratory and descriptive, since they allow a new way of seeing the theme of this thesis, while the discover y of this last reflection of Benveniste is presented. The research fits as qualitative. It is also proposed a corpus to proceed the writing analysis. It is about the newspaper Pato Macho, which circulated in Rio Grande do Sul, especially in Porto Alegre, in 1971, for fifteen weeks. As part of the results, it is observed that, by operating the property of the language double significance, Benveniste finds that writing presents itself as a secondary form of the speaking, therefore, a secondary form of discourse, forge of the two ways of being language: language as semiotic, language as semantic. Writing shows itself, thus, a privileged place for the observation of language.

Especificamente, busca responder, como questão de tese, qual é o diferencial no pensamento de Émile Benveniste sobre a escrita. A proposta parte dos fundamentos teóricos de Émile Benveniste, presentes em suas Últimas aulas no Collège de France 1968 e 1969 e em seus dois tomos de Problemas de Linguística Geral. A pesquisa estabelece como objetivo geral verificar como o linguista elabora o problema da escrita na dimensão linguística em seu quadro teórico. Para orientar o percurso investigativo, foram traçados os seguintes objetivos específicos: (re)constituir o cenário científico sobre a escrita no tempo que antecede as últimas aulas de Émile Benveniste; compreender as motivações de Benveniste em relação à escrita, a partir da leitura realizada do Curso de Linguística Geral; e, com isso, situar a própria discussão saussuriana a respeito da escrita; debater as lições sobre a semiologia e a relação entre a língua e a escrita; por fim, inscrever a significância da escrita a partir do quadro benvenistiano. No que tange aos objetivos da pesquisa, eles são determinados como exploratórios e descritivos, visto que permitem um novo modo de ver o tema desta tese, ao passo que se apresenta a descoberta da última reflexão de Benveniste. A pesquisa enquadra-se como qualitativa. Propõe-se, ainda, um corpus para proceder a análise da escrita. Trata-se do jornal Pato Macho, o qual circulou no Rio Grande do Sul, especialmente em Porto Alegre, no ano de 1971, durante quinze semanas. Como parte dos resultados, observa-se que, ao operar a propriedade da dupla significância da língua, Benveniste constata que a escrita se apresenta como uma forma secundária da fala, portanto, uma forma secundária do discurso; forja das duas maneiras de ser língua: língua como semiótico, língua como semântico. Além disso, dada a propriedade fundamental de significância da língua, com o estudo do sistema da escrita, Benveniste consegue imprimir a propriedade da interpretância da língua sobre seu próprio sistema, pois pela escrita a língua consegue realizar sua autossemiotização. Em virtude disso, Benveniste determina que a língua e a escrita significam exatamente da mesma maneira.
