Resumo: The noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) is a method of ventilatory assistance where a positive pressure is applied to the patient’s airways. One of the biggest challenges of the XXI century will be taking care of the growing population of elderly. Considering its complexity, the performance of a multidisciplinary team becomes crucial. The effects of ageing on the respiratory system are similar to those that occur in other systems and as a result, the elderly are more susceptible to infections of the respiratory and many of times with the benefit NPPV. Review of studies related to a particular topic can be done through scientific publications on crawlers reliable as PubMed. The objective of this study is to verify, through analysis of the publications listed in PubMed, the scientific interest in the study of NPPV in elderly patients. It was evaluated (February 10, 2008), the number of publications per year on NPPV crawler in PubMed. The total number of publications in which they appear VNIPP and elderly was also determined in the period. You can observe a growing interest of the scientific community to study the NPPV more diverse in their approaches. You can also note a growing interest of the scientific community to study this issue related to the elderly, however, unobtrusively. In conclusion, through an analysis of the scientific literature found that the interest of the scientific community to be studying the VNIPP is growing over the years. Alongside this there was also an increase in the number of publications relating NPPV in elderly patients.
