Resumo: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of psychoactivies substance use among high school students in Maceió, Alagoas state. It was a descriptive, cross sectional study. The sample was composed by 407 students and the survey was conducted in four public and in three private schools. Participants answered a sociodemographic questionnaire, and a questionnaire about consumption of psychoactive substances. Alcoholic beverages were the more consumed substance in the five modes of use: during the life, in a year, in one month, frequent and heavy use. Consumption in life was more prevalent in males and students from private schools. The research verified the need to carry out projects to prevent the drug use and improve health promotion.

Este fue un estudio transversal. La muestra fue compuesta por 407 estudiantes y el estudio fue conducido en cuatro escuelas públicas y tres privadas. Los participantes respondieron a un cuestionario sociodemográfico y a una encuesta sobre el uso de sustancias psicoactivas. El alcohol fue la sustancia más consumida en los cinco modos de uso: la vida, año, mes, consumo frecuente y consumo intenso. El uso en la vida era más frecuente en los adolescentes del sexo masculino y estudiantes de escuelas privadas. La investigación analiza la necesidad de llevar a cabo proyectos de prevención de drogas y promoción de la salud.Este estudo objetivou verificar a prevalência do consumo de substâncias psicoativas em adolescentes do ensino médio da cidade de Maceió, no Estado de Alagoas. Tratou-se de um estudo descritivo transversal. A amostra foi composta por 407 estudantes de quatro escolas públicas e três particulares. Os participantes responderam a um questionário sociodemográfico e a um questionário sobre o consumo de substâncias psicoativas. O álcool foi a substância mais consumida nas cinco modalidades de uso: na vida, no ano, no mês, uso frequente e uso pesado. O consumo na vida foi prevalente nos adolescentes do sexo masculino e nos estudantes das escolas particulares.
