Stereotypes Among Health Professionals Toward Alcoholics in Juiz de Fora MG, Brazil

Resumo: This study’s main purpose was to make an analysis of some possible relations between stereotypes’ scale concepts adapted by Babor et al. (1986) to Alcoholics, which applied demographic variables in a sample of health professionals of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The general stereotype’s scale was showed an average of 27.85 (S.D. 12.90) and a median of 26. There weren’t found differences among living together with alcoholics and motivation of health professionals. Even if there was noticed a difference between health professionals’ median with higher education (M = 21) and with technical education (M = 29), Mann‑Whitney (p < 0.01; Z = 4.16) and gender, it wasn’t noticed any significant scale correlations between age and time of work. Health professionals’ sterotypes of certain specific conditions and their prompt analysis have importance in order to know if the final service with patient could be affected by.

(1986) sobre los alcohólicos, con variables socio‑demográficas del una muestra de profesionales del salud de la ciudad de Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brasil. La EE presentó en media de 27,85 (DP = 12,90) y la mediana de 26. No fueran encontradas diferencias significativas entre contacto directo con alcohólicos, motivación para trabajar con los pacientes que hacen consumo nocivo del alcohol. Aunque hubo una diferencia entre los profesionales del nivel de graduación (M = 21) y técnico (M = 29) por la prueba de Mann‑Whitney (p < 0,01; Z = 4,16) y género, no se observaron correlación significativa de la EE con la edad y tiempo de trabajo. Evaluar los estereotipos de esos profesionales en determinadas condiciones es importante en vista de su influencia en la calidad de la atención prestada.O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar possíveis relações entre a Escala de Estereótipos (EE) adaptada de Babor et al (1986) sobre usuários de álcool, com variáveis sócio-demográficas de uma amostra de profissionais de saúde da cidade de Juiz de Fora, MG, Brasil. A EE apresentou média de 27,85 (DP=12,90) e mediana de 26. Não foram encontradas diferenças significativas entre convívio direto com usuário de álcool, motivação para trabalhar com pacientes que fazem uso nocivo de álcool. Embora tenha sido observada uma diferença entre as medianas dos profissionais de nível de escolaridade superior (M=21) e técnico (M=29) pelo teste de Mann-Whitney, (p<0,01; Z=4,16) e em relação ao gênero, não foram observadas correlações significativas da EE com idade e tempo de trabalho na profissão.
