Resumo: | This quantitative study was to investigate the relation between social skills and psychological well‑being of young unemployed. Participated in it 232 youngsters, aged between 18 and 24 years of both sexes, the average duration of unemployment was 9.56 months. The study was developed in a job agencies (Sine) and public school in the Vale do Paranhana (RS). We used a socio‑demographic questionnaire, the social skills inventory (inventário de habilidades Sociais – ihS‑del‑Prette) and the general health questionnaire (ghq ‑12). The data analysis showed a significant correlation between social skills and psychological well‑being (p < 0.05) indicating that among the unemployed youngs, that the higher the index of social skills is the most level of health. The results suggest that unemployment may affect the young adults in many ways however, but a good score of social skills can mitigate the negative effect, provide health. |

Participaron 232 jóvenes, con edades entre 18 y 24 años, hombres y mujeres, con tiempo medio de paro de 9,56 meses. El estudio fue realizado en agencias de empleo (Sine) y en escuelas públicas del Vale do Paranhana (RS). Se utilizó un cuestionario con datos sociodemográficos, el inventario de habilidades Sociales (ihS‑del‑Prette) y el Cuestionario general de Salud (qSg‑12). El análisis de datos reveló una correlación significativa entre habilidades sociales y bienestar psicológico (p < 0,05), indicando que entre los jóvenes en paro, cuánto más alto es el índice en las habilidades sociales, mejor es su salud. Los resultados sugieren que el paro puede afectar a personas jóvenes de diferentes maneras, pero una buena puntuación en habilidades sociales puede disminuir su efecto negativo, lo que promueve la salud.Este estudo quantitativo teve como objetivo investigar a relação entre habilidades sociais e bem-estar psicológico de jovens em situação de desemprego. Participaram dele 232 jovens, com idade entre 18 e 24 anos, de ambos os sexos, e média de tempo de desemprego de 9,56 meses. O estudo foi realizado nos SINEs e nas escolas Estaduais, do Vale do Paranhana (RS). Utilizou-se um questionário sócio-demográfico, o Inventário de Habilidades Sociais (IHS -Del-Prette) e o Questionário de Saúde Geral – QSG 12. A análise dos dados revelou que houve correlação significativa entre habilidades sociais e bem-estar psicológico (p<0,05) indicando que, entre os jovens desempregados, quanto maior for o índice de habilidades sociais maior é o nível de saúde.
