The Disclosure Process of Sexual Abuse in the Mother’s Perception

Resumo: This study investigated the process of disclosure of sexual abuse in the perception of mothers of victims. Twenty-seven nonabusive mothers of sexually abused girls children and adolescent who were victims of intra or extra-familial sexual abuse participated, with aged between 20-48 years old, that attending services for situations of violence. Individual interviews were conducted and analysis of data indicated that the disclosure of abuse occurred as a process that involved three stages: the history of revelation, revelation itself, and repercussions of the revelation in the family context. In this process characteristics of the victim, his family and their context are involved. The importance of family support network and of qualified services and professionals to face this situation are discussed.

Participaron 27 madres de niñas y adolescentes del sexo femenino víctimas de abuso sexual intra o extra familiar, con edad entre 20 y 48 años, que estaban recibiendo atención psicológica en servicios de la red de protección. Fueron realizadas entrevistas individuales y los análisis de los datos indicaron que la revelación del abuso ocurrió como un proceso que envolvió tres momentos: antecedentes de la revelación, revelación propiamente dicha, y repercusiones de la revelación em el contexto familiar. En este proceso están envueltas características de la víctima, de la familia y del contexto en que están insertadas. Se discute la importancia de la red de apoyo familiar y también de servicios y profesionales calificados para el enfrentamento de esa situación.    Este estudo investigou o processo de revelação do abuso sexual na percepção de mães das vítimas. Participaram 27 mães de crianças e adolescentes do sexo feminino vítimas de abuso sexual intra ou extrafamiliar, com idade entre 20 e 48 anos, que estavam recebendo atendimento psicológico em serviços da rede de proteção. Foram realizadas entrevistas individuais, e as análises dos dados indicaram que a revelação do abuso ocorreu como um processo que envolveu três momentos: antecedentes da revelação, revelação propriamente dita e repercussões da revelação no contexto familiar. Nesse processo, estão envolvidas características da vítima, da família e do contexto em que estão inseridas. Discute-se a importância da rede de apoio familiar e também de serviços e profissionais qualificados para o enfrentamento dessa situação.
