Ethics in Animal Experimentation: Reflections on the Behavior Analysis Didactic Laborator

Resumo: This paper discusses the use of behavior analysis laboratory in teaching of psychology from the debate on the use of animals in didactic-scientific contexts. Provided the basis for the analysis: 1) international guidelines on the use of animals in research and teaching and 2) the Brazilian legislation on ethics in animal experiments. Usually the activities that take place in Behavior Analysis didactic laboratories aim the demonstration of concepts; It is a possible point in conflict with the current legislation. It is also observed that the traditional configuration of the laboratory results in negative impacts on the welfare of experimental subjects. It is suggested therefore some changes in didactic laboratory practices. Such changes can be made with the expansion of the didactic objectives of Behavior Analysis laboratory.

Fundamentan los análisis: 1) directrices internacionales sobre el uso de animales en actividades de investigación y enseñanza y 2) la legislación brasileña sobre ética en la experimentación animal. Las actividades realizadas en laboratorios didácticos de Análisis de la Conducta tienen como objeto, por regla general, la demostración de conceptos; este objetivo es considerado como un punto de posible conflicto con la legislación actual. También se observa que la configuración tradicional de ese laboratorio implica  en impactos negativos sobre el bienestar de los sujetos experimentales. De esta manera, se plantea que el cambio de las prácticas experimentales puede realizarse junto a la ampliación de los objetivos didácticos del laboratorio de Análisis de la Conducta.O objetivo deste trabalho é discutir o uso do laboratório de Análise do Comportamento no ensino de Psicologia, a partir do debate sobre a utilização de animais em contextos didático-científicos. Serviram de base para as análises: 1) diretrizes internacionais sobre o uso de animais em atividades de pesquisa e ensino e 2) a legislação brasileira sobre ética em experimentação animal. As atividades realizadas em laboratórios didáticos de Análise do Comportamento objetivam, via de regra, a demonstração de conceitos; tal objetivo é visto como um ponto de possível conflito com a legislação atual. Observa-se também que a configuração tradicional desse laboratório implica em impactos negativos sobre o bem-estar dos sujeitos experimentais. Sugere-se, assim, que sejam implementadas mudanças nas práticas experimentais em laboratórios didáticos.
