This study proposes a reflection about the contemporary Latin American architectural production, analizing works that participated in the Rogelio Salmona Latin American Architecture Award - urban spaces / open spaces. Using, as our lead, architecture designs that successfully managed to develop spaces for the strengthening of the public sphere, the critical analysis of the architecture design has been prioritized, treated here as a result of an conscious action, based on pre-existing theories and technologies coming from the hypotheses that these layers can be, in great part, extracted from the studied works themselves. The objective of the thesis is to compile, review and, most importantly, appreciate both the initiative of an award that is essentially Latin American, and the participating works; perhaps, this study can also collaborate with the construction of a body of specific knowledge in an architectural design from a local point of view. The approximation of the works, individually and as a corpus, is made from mentioned studies, with the conceptual foundation extracted from the theoretical production created by the creators of the award themselves, the Rogelio Salmona Foundation, while encouraging and creating a conversation with other scholars about the correlation between architecture and city. By privileging an analysis of architecture design based in processes and relationships, the studies shown possible interpretations about the complex dynamics implied in the developmental processes of the architectural designs in relation to spaces of collectivity, urban surroundings and society. The thesis shows that the architecture that makes city finds, in its basis, the intention of making it, the correct interpretation of the context, and the knowing how to archictecture - not being, consequentially, a condition necessarily related to a program, propriety, scale, or an specific urban surrounding.
