The picturesque Bixiga district carries a large repertoire for the imagination of the population who inhabits and attends the region. For some people the neighborhood of Italian immigrants, for others the neighborhood of escaped black slaves. It is seen as a traditional neighborhood of the city. It´s a rich and fertile territory in the center of the city that suffers from degradation and latency for projects that leverage their development. Over time we observed some initiatives that demonstrated concern for the future of the district, such as the projects of Parque da Grota, do Concurso Nacional de Ideias para a Renovação Urbana e Preservação do Bixiga and Programa Casa Paulista. Three projects in three different periods that shows how the way of a thinking has evolved over the years, but so far have not been sufficient to arouse the neighborhood for a more auspicious future. To all who shall see this land in the heart of Sao Paulo there will always be hope that the new mechanisms created by the Master Plan 2014 along with other initiatives to keep alive the essence of the neighborhood: the joy of the popular festivities; historic appeal of its traditions, even invented; bohemia of their canteens, theaters and coffee shops; and in particular the mixture of people that living there.
