Heranças silenciosas, heranças malditas: implicações da subalternidade e do emprego doméstico em Com armas sonolentas, de Carola Saavedra, e Estela sem Deus, de Jeferson Tenório

From the perception that political and socioeconomic changes in recent years in Brazil have affected the dynamics of marginalized populations, whose participation and representation in the national literary universe has always reflected – with rare exceptions – the social exclusion to which they were subjected, we studied two novels written by Brazilian authors and published in 2018 with the aim of analyzing how contemporary literature approaches these populations, focused here on the theme of domestic labor, both regarding the construction of characters and narrative categories, and the relationship between this context, the Brazilian reality and the place of authority occupied by the intellectual/writer. Com armas sonolentas (2018), by Carola Saavedra, and Estela sem Deus (2018), by Jeferson Tenório, feature female characters linked to domestic labor – and linked to each other by blood ties. The fundamental theoretical axis around which we develop these analyzes consists of texts and authors from Subaltern Studies – theoretical school established in the context of postcoloniality – such as Gayatri Spivak (2018) and Walter Mignolo (2011; 2017). Moreover, we also analyze the mythical aspects present in each work: the magical realism, in Saavedra's case, grounded by Eliade (1972; 1992) and Chiampi (1977; 2008), and the religiosity, in the case of Tenório, grounded by Armstrong (2005). As a result, we developed the hypothesis of the interference of the formation history of Brazilian society in these literary productions as opposed to not limiting the work to a realisticnaturalist approach, because in subaltern thematic literatures, the rupture of the hegemonic rational logic of representation seems to bring further force to the narrative, considering that the absurdity of reality balances the absurdity of myth. We also identified that the social and intellectual rise of the characters occurs for individual and specific reasons, not for a transformation of power structures – a factor that adds even more relevance to contemporary literature when it addresses the subjectivity of the subaltern characters, as Carola Saavedra and Jeferson Tenório do.
