This dissertation seeks, in short, to find on the whole of instructions to the Master Plan of São Paulo City, peculiarities that can be reverted in practical actions to the establishment of environmental sustentability on the urban mean. So that, it seeks comprehending the concept of the Master Plan in Brazil, emphasizing, in each studied period, the new standards and approaches that were being introduced in its onstitution. This work also analyses the meaning and approach of the term sustentability , the precedings that gave the basis for its definition, as well as on its reverberation on the urban mean and, specially, in the society that lives in this environment. Finally, it seeks inquiring on the Master Plan of São Paulo, which treatment given to the environmental questions and what actions were recommended in order to improve the environmental sustentability of this town.
