Resumo: | This dissertation makes use of Biogeography and Biogeographic Computation concepts for the proposal of an adaptive radiation model on adaptive surfaces. The proposed model is based on a computational definition of biological isolation to detect the emergence of a new species and, thus, to promote emergent processes of sympatric speciation and extinction of species from a single ancestral species. Ecosystem patterns were investigated in static and time-varying habitats based on the model. Adaptive surfaces represent ecological habitats and opportunities and, therefore, the temporal variation of habitats is linked to the variation of the surface. In this context we have investigated how adaptive radiation patterns emerge and are favorable to the continued adaptation of species, even in cases where severe environmental changes occur. Adaptive surfaces may also be linked to optimization problems, so the results allow a discussion of how ecosystem patterns can be conducive to optimization in dynamic environments where decision surfaces vary in time. |
