Resumo: | The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze A confissão de Lúcio (Lucio‟s confession), a narrative by Mário de Sá-Carneiro. This study will be based on the theory of the double and the fantastic applied in the process of the narrative construction. An investigation of the role of the first-person narrator in this novel is also aimed at, because, in this narrative, he is presented as trustworthy, but narrates his own story revealing a questionable memory. Concerning the theory of the double, this work will be analyzed based, mainly, on Otto Rank s and Freud s theories, and relating to the fantastic, the support will come from Todorov s conceptions. The double theme appears in the narrative especially in the creation of an unexpected love triangle, composed by Lúcio, Ricardo and his enigmatic wife (Ricardo s supposedly double), which makes it possible for the reader to have more than one strange understanding of the adventure experienced and narrated by Lúcio. |

Quanto ao duplo, a obra será analisada com base, principalmente, nos estudos teóricos de Otto Rank e Freud e, com relação ao fantástico, o apoio advirá das concepções de Todorov.
