TO A NON-EXISTING BEYONDThe purpose of this paper is to discuss self-exile as a voluntary dislocation movement which can occur from a concrete, real place to an ethereal, non-palpable one, because the subject intends to escape from aworld that weighs on her/him. Short-story “Um mentiroso, aquele velho”, by Brazilian writer Moacyr Scliar, is analyzed from the perspective of carnivalization and irony, discursive strategies that put into question — the first through dream as transcendence to a “far-off unknown star”, and the second, through the author’s implicit indirect argumentation — the intolerance that one may impose on someone else, inducing him or her into selfexile to one such ethereal places. |
