Resumo: Based on the principles of the complexity, this study analyzes the concepts of undergraduate students in Physics and Mathematics UFRPE, about the Global Warming (GW) and Chaos Theory (CT). This theory was worked as a resource to understand the Global Warming. The initial phase of our research identified through interviews the conceptions of chaos of 60 people (students, professors and other university officials). Four students (two of physics and two of mathematics) were chosen to participate of a workshop about the Global Warming and Chaos Theory, in which the methodological procedure was Dialectical Hermeneutic Circle (DHC). This procedure permitted investigates the student’s conceptions about global warming, chaos theory and the relationship between them. In the initial phase, the results showed a diversity of point of views on both themes, all emerging of the common sense. However, after the application of DHC, the conceptions the students were close to that established by contemporary science. The data analyzes showed that the methodology used in this work was adequate to build the relationship between GW and CT. Therefore, we consider our methodological procedure relevant for to promote contextualized teaching of mathematics, physics and other areas of learning that require a complex perspective on the contemporary knowledge.

Neste trabalho, a teoria do caos foi utilizada como um fundamento para compreensão do aquecimento global. Na fase inicial de nossa pesquisa, identificamos por meio de entrevistas as concepções sobre o termo caos de 60 sujeitos (alunos, professores e outros funcionários da universidade). Com estes dados construímos um documentário em que mostra diferença entre a concepção de senso comum e científica sobre caos. Em seguida, convidamos quatro estudantes da licenciatura, dois de matemática e dois de física, para participar de uma oficina pedagógica, a qual foram utilizados o documentário sobre caos, métodos computacionais de análise de sistemas caóticos e um vídeo sobre os conceitos e contradições sobre o Aquecimento Global. Estes estudantes participaram de um procedimento metodológico, em que investigamos por meio questionários e da técnica do Círculo Hermenêutico-Dialético (CHD) as concepções dos estudantes a respeito do aquecimento global, da teoria do caos e da relação entre ambas. Na fase inicial, os resultados demonstraram uma diversidade de concepções sobre essas temáticas, todas oriundas do senso comum. No entanto, por meio da aplicação da oficina e do CHD, as concepções dos estudantes se mostraram próximas dos conceitos estabelecidos pela ciência contemporânea. Além de promover a relação entre AG e TC, este estudo contribuiu para compreensão de um tema controverso por meio de uma abordagem de ensino que valoriza a dinâmica do encontro entre conceitos aparentemente divergentes.
