Artesanato têxtil com fibra de bananeira: saberes e práticas de artesãs do Cariri cearense

The artisanal sector uses several vegetable fibers in its production processes such as sisal, coconut, jute, cotton and banana pseudostem, which will be the object of study in this research. This fiber is the result of an artisanal process of processing a solid residue from banana cultivation that comprises several mechanical techniques using vernacular tools in its production. In the Cariri region of Ceará, it is possible to observe a diversity of artisanal techniques, such as leather, clay, embroidery and even vegetable fibers. With the main characteristic of being a by-product of agriculture, handicraft with banana fiber has its production linked to the rural environment. Although there are productive groups in several cities in Cariri, banana residues still have a significant amount in the region. Systematizing the knowledge and practices of these artisans enables both an observation about the relationship between artisanal production and the socioeconomic development of the subjects, as well as the dissemination of knowledge. A semi-structured interview was used as collection tools, where four artisans were interviewed. The records were captured in the form of videography and served as a backbone for the analysis and construction of the products of this research. An illustrated booklet about these processes and a documentary about the relationships established by the artisans and their habitus. In view of the results, it was possible to observe that the practice is not configured as a traditional activity, since there is still no transmission of knowledge between generations.
