Resumo: | Ladybird Cryptolaemus montrouzieri Mulsant, native species of Australia and is widely distributed throughout the world. This species has been used in many classic countless species of mealybugs and aphids in the world of biological control programs, including in Brazil to control the Planococcus citri (Risso). Although C. montrouzieri have been studied in several species of mealybugs, there is no study of the biology of this predator on Ferrisia virgata Cockerell. This study evaluated the biology of C. montrouzieri on F. virgata and preliminarily determined the average daily consumption of C. montrouzieri feeding on F. virgata and reproductive performance of the predator on the mealybug and dietary supplements. Nymphs and adults of F. virgata as the sole source of food was adequate as prey of C. montrouzieri, being consumed by both larvae by adults such as ladybirds. The average duration of the egg stage, larva, pupa and pre-pupae of the predator was 4.77, 12.87, 2.73 and 9.67 days respectively. Adults of C. montrouzieri fed females of F. virgata had the following biological parameters: Pre-oviposition, oviposition and post-oviposition 4.35, 87.85 and 41.10 days, respectively. Each female oviposited on average 480.80 eggs. The calculated sex ratio was 0.57. Adults of C. montrouzieri consume on average more than an adult female of F. virgata to satisfy your hunger. When ladybugs are subjected to different diets: F. virgata provided exclusively, F. virgata + honey, F. virgata + pollen, pollen and no power, there is influence on egg production and survival, featuring a close relationship F. virgata consumption by C. montrouzieri. The reproductive performance of C. montrouzieri preying F. virgata, plus the survival and reproductive balance sheet presented under the condition of scarcity such prey, shows that C. montrouzieri is a potential predator for control of F. virgata. |

Esta espécie tem sido usada em diversos programas de controle biológico clássico de espécies de cochonilhas e pulgões, inclusive no Brasil para o controle de Planococcus citri (Risso). Apesar de C. montrouzieri ter sido estudado em várias espécies de cochonilhas, não existe estudos da biologia desse predador se em Ferrisia virgata Cockerell. Assim, este trabalho avaliou a biologia de C. montrouzieri sobre F. virgata, bem como determinou preliminarmente o consumo médio diário de C. montrouzieri alimentando-se de F. virgata e o desempenho reprodutivo do predador sobre a cochonilha e suplementos alimentares. Ninfas e adultos de F. virgata como fonte exclusiva de alimento mostrou-se adequada como presa de C. montrouzieri, sendo consumida tanto por larvas quanto por adultos dessa joaninha. A duração média da fase ovo, larva, pré-pupa e pupa do predador foi de 4,77, 12,87, 2,73 e 9,67 dias respectivamente. Adultos de C. montrouzieri alimentados com fêmeas de F. virgata apresentaram os seguintes parâmetros biológicos: Pré-oviposição, oviposição e pós-oviposição de 4,35; 87,85 e 41,10 dias, respectivamente.
