Resumo: | The set of microclimate modifications resulting from the drastic increase of the forests edges causes a series of biological alterations that modify the species composition and community structure, bringing serious risks to the biodiversity. With the intense forest fragmentation the edges are becoming increasingly abundant in regions around the world, in a way that the major part of the landscape is dominated by the edge effects. Thus, herbaceous plants constitute an important vegetal group of analysis of the edge effects, due to its close relationship with environmental factors, responding rapidly to anthropogenic alterations. So, the aim of this work was evaluate the edge effect on the herbaceous assembly in a fragment of Atlantic forest in the Northeast of Brazil. We sought to identify the variations in richness, diversity and individuals density, as well as temperature and soil moisture and the litter accumulation between the edge and the inte-rior of the fragment, analyzing if there is any relationship between species composition and those environmental variables. 50 plots of 5 x 5 m were sampled in each studied environment – edge and interior, where all individual were counted and it was obtained the species number for determination of richness, diversity, equability, absolute fre-quency and individuals density. Environmental parameters were collected inside each parcel. 137 species were identified: 75 in the edge, distributed in 54 genus and 27 fami-lies and 97 in the interior, distributed in 63 genus and 33 families. These results show that the herbaceous as-sembly is being affected by the edge effects, forming a set of depleted species on forests edges, due to microclimate conditions of this area. |

Com a intensa fragmentação florestal as bordas estão se tornando cada vez mais abundantes em regiões de todo mundo, de modo que grande parte da paisagem é dominada pelos efeitos de borda. Nesse sentido, as plantas herbáceas constituem um importante grupo vegetal para análise dos efeitos de borda, tendo em vista sua estreita relação com os fatores ambientais, respondendo rapidamente as alterações antrópicas. Diante disso, este trabalho objetiva avaliar o efeito de borda na assembléia de herbáceas em um fragmento de floresta Atlântica no Nordeste do Brasil. Buscou-se identificar variações na riqueza, diversidade e densidade de indivíduos, bem como na temperatura e umidade do solo, e acúmulo de serrapilheira entre a borda e o interior do fragmento, analisando se existe alguma relação entre a composição de espécies e essas variáveis ambientais. Foram amostradas 50 parcelas de 5 x 5m em cada ambiente estudado – borda e interior, dentro das quais foi feita a contagem de todos os indivíduos e obtido o número de espécies para determinação da riqueza, diversidade, equabilidade, frequência absoluta e densidade de indivíduos. Os parâmetros ambientais foram coletados no centro de cada parcela. Foram identificadas um total de 137 espécies: 75 na área de borda, distribuídas em 54 gêneros e 27 famílias e 97 no interior, distribuídas em 63 gêneros e 33 famílias. Do total de espécies, 40 são exclusivas da borda e 62 são exclusivas do interior do fragmento. Obteve-se 2806/1250m2 indivíduos no interior e 4948/1250m2 na borda. Foram observadas diferenças significativas na riqueza (U = 887,5; p = 0,0062), diversidade de espécies (p < 0,05; t = 16,54) e densidade de indivíduos (t = 4.7255; p < 0,0001) entre a borda e o interior. O índice de diversidade e o valor da equabilidade foram maiores para o interior. Também foram observadas diferenças significativas entre os valores de temperatura (U= 299; p < 0,0001), umidade do solo (U= 985; p= 0,0339) e serrapilheira acumulada (U=956,5; p= 0,0215) entre os dos habitas estudados. As variáveis ambientais contribuíram para o arranjo e distribuição das espécies entre os habitats.
