Mulher e pesca artesanal : a participação das pescadoras de Rio Formoso-PE na construção de políticas públicas para o desenvolvimento local

This research aims to relate the political participation of fishers in Rio Formoso, located on the southern coast of Pernambuco, in the construction of public policies for local development. Considering that artisanal fishing has its peculiarities when traditionally practiced by men, the principal analysis here intends to present the political devaluation of the fisherwomen affiliated with the colony. Taking as a case study the fishermen colony, Rio Formoso -PE, the research sought to reflect on the level of involvement of fishers in building policies for local development of the fishing community. It is observed that in many situations, fisherwomen are present at meetings of the colony, but their choices are not respected nor recognized within the decision-making spaces. The devaluation of their work and the lack of social recognition by peers prevent their political action in democratic spaces. This is a qualitative/quantitative study, where we use methodological procedures including direct observation, document analysis, semi-structured interviews with representatives of the colony and artisanal fishing workers. From the results we found that there was no effective participation of fisherwomen in the construction of public policies for local development of the fishing community in question.
