Aspectos epidemiológicos da Leucose Enzoótica Bovina (LEB) em rebanhos bovinos leiteiros na microrregião de Garanhuns, Pernambuco

The objective of this thesis was to conduct a epidemiological study about the Enzootic Bovine Leukosis virus infection in dairy cattle originating from farms in the micro region of Garanhuns, State of Pernambuco. Four hundred forty five blood samples were collected on 19 dairy herds distributed in 15 towns. Samples were submitted to the Agar Gel Immunodiffusion (AGID) technique to detect anti-VLB serum antibodies. To identify the risk factors associated with infection was performed an univariate statistical analysis for those variables of interest using the chi-square test and later was made a logistic regression analysis considering as dependent variable serology (reagent or no reagent). There was a prevalence of 20.7% (95% CI; 17.1 - 82.9). Prevalence of infection at the studied properties ranged from 0.1% to 77.9%. There was at least one infected animal in 63.2% of farms. After logistic regression analysis were observed as risk factors: intensive farming (OR 19.1, CI 6.9 - 52.6), performance of palpation (OR 2.1, CI 1.3 - 3.4); management of handlers (OR 2.8, CI 1.2 - 6.5) and as a protective factor fly control (OR 0.2, CI 0, 1 - 0.4), heat treatment of colostrum (OR 0.7, CI 0.5 - 0.9); replacement animal import (OR 0.5, CI 0.3 - 0.9). According to the results, BLV infection is widespread in the studied region and control management should be implemented to prevent the spread of the virus to other properties in the region and other states.
