The present dissertation arises from a concern caused by the repetition, inside and outside History classes, of the statement “if we had remained a Dutch colony, we would be in better conditions”. What values and perceptions warrant this statement? Who do they belong to? The spread of this truth seems to compose an imaginary tangible in the material cultural heritage chosen by the State. The fragmentation caused by an acceleration of time, however, increasingly leads to an 'amnesia' that allows control of the future through the voluntary reconstruction of the past. Cultural Heritage as a representative element of social camaraderie acts, at the same time, as a ‘memory machine’ and legitimizer of a given historicity regime. This regime brings with it a set of values, perceptions and attitudes that are universal and whose uses are fundamental to the identity of a part of society. In those that constitute this identity there is a relationship of belonging expressed, above all, in the heritage in stone and lime. However, for those who do not share this identity or its forming elements, forgetting or adopting theatrical memories that have stone and lime as their stage of action is appropriate.
