Resumo: Chronic low back pain is a common musculoskeletal disorder worldwide, causing functional limitation and thus impairing the quality of life of individuals. The aim was to assess the level of functional ability in individuals 60 years or older with low back pain of areas covered by the Family Health Strategy "Vila Sao Paulo" in the city of Bauru, São Paulo, and its association with demographic and socioeconomic variables, work-related, lifestyle and morbidity. We conducted a cross-sectional study with 246 elderly who reported back pain, sampled by the technique of two-stage cluster, who were interviewed at home using a multidimensional instrument (demographic, socioeconomic, characterization work; lifestyle; morbidity above), the IPAQ questionnaires, Nordic and Roland Morris. We conducted descriptive analysis, bivariate and multivariate logistic regression. It was noted more frequently in elderly between 60 and 69 years old, married, with an income of up to five minimum wages, and women have more years of schooling than men. The prevalence of low back pain in men was 25.1%, whereas in women was 35.1%. In adjusted analysis with functional disability was associated with increasing age (p = 0.01), lower education (p = 0.04), occupational activity involving repetitive movements (p = 0.05), working in the seated position (p = 0.05), physical inactivity (p = 0.004) and the amount of disease (p = 0.002). The association between functional disability in patients with low back pain with increasing age, low education, repetitive work and sitting posture, inactivity and high number of illnesses is an important indicator for the health services to plan actions to prevent or delay the disability, ensuring independence and better quality of life for the elderly.

Made available in DSpace on 2015-10-21T10:25:14Z (GMT).
