Estudo retrospectivo dos fatores de riscos associados à falha de mini-implantes utilizados para ancoragem ortodôntica

The aim of this study was to evaluate the failure rate about the stability failure of miniimplants used as orthodontic anchorage. Two hundred and eighty-two mini-implants four commercial brands (Morelli, SIN, Neodent and Conexão) were evaluated in 127 patients (84 female and 43 male, with mean age of 38.88 years). Patients were selected randomly in three graduate courses and in a private clinic. Failures were considered when the mini-implants showed mobility or loss over a period of up to 6 months from its installation. Failure rates were determined using 10 clinical variables (age, sex, mini-implant length, brand, apical base, side of placement, gingival tissue, root proximity, and type of mechanics). To assess the influence of age at the rate of failure of mini-implants t test was performed. The other variables were evaluated using the chi-square test. For variable gingival tissue unilateral Fisher Test was applied. The overall average failure was 12.76%. The variables mini-implant length and root proximity showed statistically significant differences in failure rates. It was concluded that the installation of mini-implants between roots presents a significantly higher failure rate than in edentulous area and completion of the variable length of the mini-implant more statistical tests would be needed to correlate the variables related to instability of mini-implants.
