Resumo: The use of tobacco in the adolescence has been a serious concern for professionals of the health. The initial involvement of the young has occurred in precocity and, in the student environment; the use of this drug is made easier by friends, familiar problems, globalization and influence of the media. This work proposes to verify the prevalence of tobacco according with the gender and age in Escola Estadual Itajahy Feitosa Martins high school in Barueri SP, and it help us to know some parents characteristics of the smokers and nonsmokers and to evaluate the knowledge that parents have about the cause of these illnesses. The methodology utilized at this research was a descriptive inquiry one, which was supposed to determine the tobacco prevalence in the considered teenagers.

Este trabalho se propõe a verificar a prevalência do uso de tabaco segundo o sexo e idade em escolares adolescentes do Ensino Médio, da Escola Estadual Itajahy Feitosa Martins, do município de Barueri SP, para conhecer algumas características dos pais dos fumantes e não fumantes e avaliar o conhecimento que tem sobre as doenças causadas pelo tabaco.
