Resumo: This article focuses on the landmarking of natural areas by the CONDEPHAAT - Council for the Protection of Historical, Artistic, Archaeological and Tourist Heritage. It discusses the potentialities and limits of landmarking in the preservation of natural landscape in all its aspects between 1970 and 1990, when most actions were developed by this agency in the state of São Paulo. It also proposes the landmarking of natural areas should be discussed as a current issue, in constant interdisciplinary dialogue as an indispensable debate in the renewal of studies on preservation, and especially under the responsibility of cultural heritage.

Discute, nesse sentido, as potencialidades e limites do uso do tombamento para a preservação da paisagem natural em suas pluralidades e sentidos, entre os anos de 1970 e 1990, período em que se concentram a maioria das ações desenvolvidas pelo órgão paulista nessa seara de atuação.
