Resumo: The paper presents an approach to Abbot Marc-Antoine Laugier thoughts. The Abbot was a French thinker of the eighteenth century who wrote what can be considered the most important treaty or the enlightenment period. The approach, although general, aim to incite the reader to seek work on this important author. Therefore, this article presents a translation of the “Foreword” of the Essai sur l’Architecture, the most important book written by the Abbot, as well as a transcription of the original text, taken from the book published in Paris in 1753. The article also presents a small bibliography on the subject identifying other translations in order to enable the reader compared readings.

As observações, ainda que gerais, pretendem incitar o leitor a procurar trabalhos sobre este importante autor. Para tanto, este artigo apresenta, ao final, uma tradução do “Prefácio” do Essai sur l’Architecture, o mais importante livro escrito pelo Abade, assim como uma transcrição do texto original, retirado do livro publicado em Paris em 1753.
