Resumo: This paper presents the conditions for the establishment of a language derived from the reinforced concrete technique, relating the foundations of the discussion about form, material and function, presented in the nineteenth and early twentieth century, with the emphasis on the form as representative aspect of modern material culture. By understanding the technical possibilities for the reinforced concrete, and the claim that architecture assumes to deal with different prerogatives under the significant support of form as an expression of culture and time, the text links the arguments related to this subject, presented by the thoughts of Le Corbusier, Lucio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer and Vilanova Artigas. The aim is to also understand the work of these architects as a trial to establish the inherent language of the new material.

The aim is to also understand the work of these architects as a trial to establish the inherent language of the new material.O presente artigo aborda os termos para o estabelecimento de uma linguagem autêntica para a técnica do concreto armado, relacionando os fundamentos da discussão entre forma, material e função, presentes no século XIX e começo do século XX, com a ênfase na questão da forma como manifestação representativa da cultura material moderna. A partir do entendimento das possibilidades técnicas do concreto armado, e da afirmação de que a arquitetura pressupõe o agenciamento de diferentes prerrogativas sob o respaldo significante da forma, o texto procura identificar algumas colocações sobre a relação entre expressão artística e técnica construtiva, por parte de Le Corbusier, Lucio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer e Vilanova Artigas.
