Resumo: This article is the preliminary evaluation about the Chilean Tourism reserarch. It presents the available resources diagnostic; the research thematic andcharacter; the researches profiles; etc. This study emphasizes the touristic research development at Austral University of Chile, explaining the relations between the teaching and research, and the links between the private and public areas. It also analyse the challenges faced by touristic research and the perspectives of this new scientific knowlodge field.

El estudio enfatiza la revisión del desarrollo de la investigación en la Universidad Austral de Chile, explicitando las relaciones entre investigación y docencia y las vinculaciones con el medio público y privado. Al mismo tiempo el autor plantea, desde su perspectiva los desafíos que la investigación turística en Chile enfrenta y las expectativas que se abren para este nuevo campo del conocimiento científico.Universidade de São Paulo.
