Resumo: The scientific treatment applied to subjects of tourism is in a time of great questioning and criticism by proposing demarcate their borders in scientific knowledge and consolidate itself as an independent area of research. This work intends to recover characteristics and peculiarities of the social sciences and the foundations of scientific knowledge involving the choice of research methods applied in its themes, emphasizing the case of tourism and its phenomena. It discusses the methodological implications of applied social science research and methodology is detailed proposition of models, considering the increase of its use in academic productions in tourism in recent times and its relevance as an instrument of contribution to knowledge in the area.

O tratamento científico aplicado aos temas de turismo encontra-se em um momento de grandes questionamentos e de críticas, ao propor demarcar suas fronteiras no conhecimento científico e consolidar-se como área independente de pesquisa. Este trabalho pretende resgatar características e singularidades das ciências sociais e os fundamentos do conhecimento científico que implicam na escolha dos métodos de pesquisa aplicados em suas temáticas, com ênfase ao caso do turismo e de seus fenômenos. Discute-se as implicações metodológicas da pesquisa em ciências sociais aplicadas e se detalha a metodologia de proposição de modelos, considerando o incremento de sua utilização nas produções académicas em turismo em tempos recentes e de sua pertinência como instrumento de contribuição ao conhecimento na área. El tratamiento científico empleado en los temas del turismo se halla en un momento de grandes cuestionamientos y críticas, al plantearse demarcar sus fronteras en el conocimiento científico y consolidarse como área independiente de investigación. Este trabajo plantea presentar las características y singularidades de las ciencias sociales y los fundamentos del conocimiento científico que condicionan la elección del método de investigación aplicado en sus temáticas, en particular en el caso del turismo y de sus fenómenos. Se discute las implicaciones metodológicas para la investigación en ciencias sociales aplicadas y se detalla la metodología de proposición de modelos, considerando el incremento de su utilización en las producciones academicas en turismo en tiempos recientes y de su validez como instrumento de contribución a lo conocimiento en el área.
