Resumo: This article analyzes the contemporary global context set by recent crises and prospectamscenarios that explore the possibilities offered by new parameters of competitiveness, withemphasis on the imperatives of innovation, changes that marked the world in recent decades and facts that put in check structures and processes historically made. The travel and tourismsector suffers the impacts of all sorts of transformations and tries to adapt to the new socio- cultural settings and possibilities facilitated by new information technologies, which, in turn, configure new segments, new markets and new products. Understand the dynamics, extent and intensity of these changes is critical in analyzing current and prospective, necessary toguide strategic decisions on tourism.

O setor de turismo e viagens sofre os impactos de toda sorte de transformações etenta se adaptar às novas configurações sócio-culturais e de possibilidades facilitadas pelas novas tecnologias da informação, que, por sua vez, configuram novos segmentos, novos mercados e novos produtos. Entender a dinâmica, extensão e intensidade dessas mudanças éfundamental na análise atual e prospectiva, imprescindível para orientar decisões estratégicas em turismo.En este artículo se analisa el contexto contemporáneo mundial establecido por las crisisrecientes y se prospectam las posibilidades que ofrece nuevos parámetros de competitividad, con énfasis en los imperativos de la innovación, los cambios que marcaron el mundo en las últimas décadas y los hechos que ponen en estructuras de control y procesos históricamenteinstalados. El sector de los viajes y turismo sufre los impactos de todo tipo detransformaciones y trata de adaptarse a los nuevos contextos socioculturales y las posibilidades facilitadas por las tecnologías de la información, la cual, a su vez, configurannuevos segmentos, nuevos mercados y nuevos productos.
