Resumo: This article presents analyses based on an ethnographic investigation carried out at an elementary state school in the outskirts of Curitiba, PR (Brazil). The field material was obtained from observations of a third year class made along thirteen months, interviews with pupils and teacher, and from the exam of documentation. The focus is directed to the practices of a successful teacher and to the organization of time in the classroom. Three categories are at the root of the analyses conducted here: distribution of time, right moment, and rhythm. The results of this study advance the understanding of the relationships between time in school, teaching, and evaluation. They indicate the need to reflect upon the temporality of the classroom in terms of two dimensions - chronos and kairós - which in the case under study coordinate and adjust themselves in the teaching environment, making room for a work strategy that privileges the individual attention to pupils. These dimensions also reveal forms of employing time that establish important settings for the production of relationships in the school everyday life.

Este artigo apresenta análises produzidas a partir de investigação etnográfica realizada em uma escola pública de ensino fundamental, localizada na periferia de Curitiba (PR). O material empírico foi obtido a partir de observações realizadas durante um período de treze meses em uma sala de aula de terceira série, de entrevistas realizadas com a professora e com os alunos, e pelo exame de documentos. O foco recai sobre as práticas de uma professora bem sucedida e sobre a organização do tempo na sala de aula. As análises foram desenvolvidas a partir de três categorias: distribuição do tempo, momento oportuno e ritmo. Os resultados do estudo permitiram ampliar a compreensão sobre as relações entre o tempo escolar, o ensino e a avaliação. Indicam a necessidade de se pensar a temporalidade da sala de aula a partir de duas dimensões - chronos e kairós - que, no caso em estudo, se coordenam e se ajustam na situação de ensino, abrindo espaço para uma estratégia de trabalho que privilegia o atendimento individual aos alunos; e mostram, também, formas de uso do tempo que se apresentam como significativos espaços de produção de relações no cotidiano escolar.
