Resumo: The study of nuptiality was been neglected by demographic historians for a long period. The British demographer John Hajnal was the first to mention the European past. He showed that Wertern Europe had a specific "European" matrimonial regime, based, on average, on the age access of women to marriage. Based on Hajnal results, the author uses a homeostatic model to describe a "demographic system of Ancient Regime", where nuptiality plays the role of a dynamic regulating variable of the population. As part of the model, the author assumed that there is a transition regime between the adolescent matrimony of nonEuropean societies and the madure matrimonial regime of Western Europe. When compared with England, that transition was believed to have occured with a lag of 200 years in Iberian Peninsula. This paper uses available data and some preliminary results of an on going investigation to show the occurence of location specific matrimonial regimes in the Iberian Peninsula since the last centuries of the Middle Ages. Such occurence was already studied and observed for England. The author's purpose In the paper is to undertake a deep analysis of the subject in order to restate or to abandon the thesis that a transformation occured in the matrimonial regime between the XVI e XVIII Centuries. The author argues that the demographic studies on the European past should be based on a regional and comparable perspective, following Hajnal's procedure.

The author argues that the demographic studies on the European past should be based on a regional and comparable perspective, following Hajnal's procedure.O estudo da nupcialidade foi descurado durante muito tempo pela demográfica histórica.
