From the understanding of diversified spaces of production, exchange and appropriation of knowledge and information, the aim of this study was analyse the construction of the symbolic conditions of circulation and appropriation of knowledge within the scope of the use of informational artifacts, focusing on urban experiences of book fairs in Rio de Janeiro. The study is result of research developed in the years between 2015 and 2017, by what we treat as “informational book fair culture and information about the culture of fairs: production, circulation and appropriation of sources of information about the book fairs in the State of Rio de Janeiro”. For the present article, the analysis was centered in the book fairs in the city of Rio de Janeiro. According to a qualitative approach, through bibliographical and documental research and based on the oral records of visitors and booksellers collected through a semi-structured interview, it attempted to verify how the knowledge is constructed in the locus of the fair, the symbolic experiences and the appropriation of information that take place in these environments. As a result, it has been inferred that the experiences of these subjects with the informational universe contribute to the construction of knowledge about the fairs and the creation of symbolic interactions with different social actors. In the end, it was considered that the experience in book fairs produces the symbolic significance of its subjects and promotes the appropriation of knowledge about these environments and their informational artifacts
