Resumo: University rankings are analyzed as a tool for government decision-making in the design and implementation of university educational policies by national and supranational educational institutions. Work made from a critical point of view, in which a brief overview is made of the creation of the first rankings as well as a quick review of the most relevant ones, to then proceed to carry out a description of the main methodological and use criticisms of these tools, to end up identifying in which countries and procedures the rankings are being used, as well as making an assessment of the value of such use by political leaders to generate their university and evaluation policies. identifying that its use generates a series of errors and injustices in university systems and universities in political decision-making.

Trabajo confeccionado desde una visión crítica, en el que se hace un breve recorrido sobre la creación de los primeros rankings así como una rápida revisión de los más relevantes, para pasar posteriormente a llevar a cabo una descripción de las principales críticas metodológicas y de uso de estas herramientas, acabando con la identificación de en qué países y procedimientos se están utilizando los rankings, así como realizando una valoración sobre la valía de dicho uso por parte de los dirigentes políticos en la generación de sus políticas universitarias y de evaluación, identificando que su utilización provoca una serie de errores e injusticias en sistemas universitarios y universidades especialmente en la toma de decisiones políticas.Universidade de São Paulo.
