Resumo: This text analyzes the museological documentation processes in Geoscience collections and how technical procedures are developed within this type of collection. Reflecting on which museological documentation instruments are used to manage specialized museological Geoscience collections in Brazil informed the research’s concerns. Thus, this applied qualitative case study investigates the use of museological documentation in institutions that house Geoscience collections, starting from the hypothesis that documentation-related research in these museological spaces is incipient either due to technical deficiency or lack of interest. Results show an interdisciplinary relationship between Museology and Geosciences professionals in the development of museological documentation for this type of collection, but dissemination of works that highlight this interdisciplinarity is restricted. Treatment of Geosciences collections from the perspective of museological documentation constitutes a research field still little explored.

O questionamento sobre quais instrumentos de documentação museológica são utilizados na gestão de coleções de Geociências museológicas especializadas no Brasil deu origem às inquietações da investigação. O objetivo da pesquisa é realizar o levantamento do uso da documentação museológica em instituições que abrigam acervos geocientíficos. A hipótese inicial é que as pesquisas relacionadas à documentação nesses espaços museológicos são muito incipientes, seja por carência técnica, seja por falta de interesse. A pesquisa configura-se como qualitativa de natureza aplicada; com relação aos procedimentos, é um estudo de caso; é exploratória quanto aos objetivos e o método é qualitativo. Os resultados mostram uma relação interdisciplinar no campo técnico do desenvolvimento da documentação museológica de acervos geológicos entre profissionais das áreas de Museologia e Geociências, mas a divulgação de trabalhos que evidenciam essa relação interdisciplinar é restrita. A contribuição deste trabalho é apresentar uma pesquisa em acervos geocientíficos especificamente sobre o tratamento das coleções da perspectiva da documentação museológica, que demonstra ser um campo de pesquisa ainda pouco explorado.Universidade de São Paulo.
