Resumo: | The study implies that among the research subjects in Information Science, public policies for books and reading promotion need to be addressed. Its purpose is to investigate the impact of scientific production on public policy addressing the books and reading promotion in Information Science in Brazil over the last 20 years. It incorporates the categorical analysis approach of the Content Analysis research method as part of the methodology. It was revealed that 19 studies were recovered. They are classified into five categories: a) symbolic and evaluative aspects of public policies for books and reading promotion; b) sustainable development within the context of public policies for books and reading promotion; c) metric studies on public policies for books and reading promotion; d) educational and cultural initiatives in public policies for books and reading promotion; e) processes of evaluation, investigation, and establishment of public policies for books and reading promotion. It was observed that over 20 years, the time gaps without publishing on the topic of public policies for books and reading promotion add up to 14 years in total. On the other hand, the time containing publications on the subject amounts to barely six years. Therefore, there is a theme disparity in the studies field. This evidence may suggest that researchers in the domain have the potential to explore several gaps in the issue while exploring novel phenomena in the field, whether or not they are consistent with those categorized in this research. It concludes that other issues can be explored while investigating new phenomena in the public policy for books and reading promotion theme in Information Science in Brazil. Therefore, scholars in the domain might engage in research initiatives that allow them to examine gaps that yield valuable studies on the issue. |

Therefore, scholars in the domain might engage in research initiatives that allow them to examine gaps that yield valuable studies on the issue.O estudo parte do pressuposto de que dentre os temas de pesquisa em Ciência da Informação, o de políticas públicas do livro e leitura necessita ser explorado.
